16.9.15 - Day 12. Wednesday - Photo Safari, Plaza Hotel, Highline, Death Ave, Chelsea Market, Buddakan, Limo

Carolyn and I off just after 8, to join our Photo Safari - Iconic NY1 - a photo walking workshop.
Fire truck off to a fire.
Very few train hiccups and we arrived in time for a coffee and biscotti at FIKA.
We then joined Zim, our leader and Lauren, a young Scot.
Rockefeller Centre was our first subject.

There were rules...# 1 on the back of Zim's shirt.

Phew!!! what a whirlwind tour around town, to learn more about photography, used 'p' mode, which was great and learnt about exposure control.

We did buildings, taxi's, trains, horse and cart, people, skylines. We walked a lot and stood a lot and Planted our feet and were coached by Zim. We spent time photographing:
  • Rockefeller Center and surrounds
  • Trains and signs
  • Art work
  • cabs
  • Radio City
  • People
  • Central Park
  • Skyline

just in case you weren't sure.

Atlas at Rockefeller.
Some protesters outside Coca-Cola building, a blow up rat.
Skyline at Central Park. (We later saw Manhattan Maid, the movie on TV, and they were in this exact same place)
Zim took this shot, flash to fill in face...cut of skyline though.
On Zim's recommendation we went back to Plaza Hotel Food Hall, for a Luke's Lobster Roll. The combo came with chips and drink. It was delicious.

Then C and  I went to meet the others near the Whitney and Highline.

We eventually met the others to walk the Highline. This is a park established on an abandoned elevated railway line. Lots of trees, plants, flowers, sculptures and other art installations along the way. Some great views too. It was the heat of the day, but a really great walk along the 1.3 miles.
disused railway line amongst the shrubbery.
Street art.
The Flag flies everywhere.
This looked awfully like cumbungi.
An old guy, we had seen him on a train in his lilac suit one other day. Surname Fuller - so Lyn had a chat. He was listening to his radio, sweating it out in the sun.

Cool finish on this building.
Skyline, ESB
Wonky watertank, Zim said 'wonky' is allowed.
Lyn with some artwork.
It was hot, so we took a break on this amazing cool soft grass, waiting for Carolyn, who was actually ahead of us.

An advertising billboard. Down below was an outdoor beer garden. We tried it later.
Snoozin.
Not sure what it was.

Towards the end. Carolyn, Lyn, Kathy, Sandra and Julie
There was a huge Lego sculpture, all white with stacks of spare blocks lying around, here they all are playing... Sandra.

At the end of Highline we retired to an outdoor bar at Death Ave, under the Highline for a drink or two. Kathy and Sandra left us to go home and tart themselves up for our Dinner out.

The remaining four had another drink and then moseyed along to Chelsea Markets for a squiz, a great fresh food market plus some other food stalls and shops. The seafood place here was amazing.

Chelsea markets, oil.
Seafood place, you could get fresh stuff, or eat in.
Preparation
Then onto Buddakan - a quick shirt change and spruce up in the restrooms and short wait for all the gang to arrive.

We opted for a banquet option. The food was delicious, our 'server' was lovely but could have been a little more polished, not quite up to the standard of the food.

Last night at Bar 230 we were offered a Limo ride. We declined, but got information on costs etc for the big night. I took his card. Phoned him tonight an hour before departure time and bingo Sallou was there as arranged, a total surprise for Sandra and a fun treat for us all. He took us home via Times Square for some pics. A lovely bloke.

Here we all are with Sallou.
Home at a reasonable time, but sat around and to bed about 1am.
